Old parking meters still collecting cash

11/16/2016 By 104.5 the U

Ever thought about charging your friends for parking?

Well, there’s no better time than now to adopt a parking fee and collection program at your home thanks to a unique fundraising campaign by our friends at Missoula Downtown Foundation.

Starting late last month, the foundation has begun selling historic downtown parking meters to raise money for downtown enhancement and capital improvement projects.

two-park-o-meter-parking-meter-one-hour-limit-wingsdomain-art-and-photographyBefore Missoula had those cool new digital meters we collected our quarters the old-fashioned way. Now about 700 of those old meters are being marketed as potential holiday gifts – a piece of downtown history that can be used as an art project, piggy bank — even an urn!

And to top it off, you’re contributing to a great cause. Next time you’re downtown for a show, a date or a shopping spree – take note of the holiday decor, the unique public pianos, the flower baskets … that’s what the foundation does, and it’s part of what makes Missoula such a beautiful place to live!

A single-head meter is going for $50. Add another $50 if you want it with pole attached. Price is doubled for double-head meters. You can make your purchase at the foundation’s headquarters, 218 East Main Street, between 8 am and 5 pm.

For more information about the parking meter sale, call Will Greenway at 543-4238 or email him at will@missouladowntown.com.

Or if you’d like to skip the meters and donate directly to the foundation, you can do so HERE.
