We’re all aware of the parties, the concerts and the more “mature” events that make up Halloween weekend in Missoula.
But believe it or not there’s a lot of family-friendly stuff going on as well!
If you’re looking for an alternative to trick-or-treating this year, or maybe you’d rather do yo
ur celebrating on a weekend night, we’ve put together a list of several family-friendly ev
ents and happenings you might want to check out.
2nd annual YMCA Hoot & Howl Halloween Bash
Whether you’re a member or not, party down with the folks at the Greater Missoula Family YMCA Halloween evening for only a dollar per person. Enjoy trunk-or-treat, a costume contest, photo booth, bounce house, apple bob, haunted school bus and more!
If you’re not a member, sign up at the Y this day only and they’ll waive your joining fee!

14th annual Missoula Children’s Museum Halloween Bash
Come in costume – or not – and enjoy entertainment, games, prizes and special treats for $5 per person.

Spooky Cupcake Workshops at Taste Buds Kitchen
Missoula’s kitchen-events center has scheduled a variety of cool Halloween-themed events for kids of all ages, starting with “spooky” cupcake workshops for kids 6-9 on Saturday at 2 pm and for kids 2-6 on Sunday at 11 am. Costumes are encouraged.
And then the entire family is invited to enjoy a special “Halloween Haunted House Workshop” at 11 am Monday. Work together to design and decorate your own gingerbread house masterpiece while enjoying Halloween music and orange hot cocoa.
And if you’re more inclined to ditch the kids, you might check out Taste Buds’ “Halloween Battle Cupcake Workshop” at 7:30 pm on Saturday. Bring your own beverage, learn some cool cupcaking techniques and then battle for top prize before a panel of chef judges!

Halloween for Hospice at Southgate Mall
Have fun and support Hospice Care Foundation with this carnival and costume contest in the JC Penney’s Court. Games include a duck pond, plinko, pop toss PLUS a photo booth! Event runs 4:30-7 pm.
Funds raised support the expansion of the foundation’s granting programs for individuals as well as it’s community education foundation.
Games are a dollar apiece, or buy an unlimited wristband for $15. Costume contest entry is $2 per person or $5 for a family/group.
Southgate Mall will also be hosting trick-or-treating throughout from 6-9 pm, including a “Thriller” performance by On Center Performing Arts at 7 pm.

Haunted Hollow at A Carousel for Missoula
Enjoy haunted rides on the “Scarousel” or take a flashlight tour of a not-too-haunted Dragons Hollow decorated and staffed by the ghouls and goblins from Missoula Children’s Theatre.
Event runs 6-8 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday and is designed for kids under 12.
Cost is $4 for kids under 12, $ for children 12 and older.

Insectarium Halloween Party
Enjoy children’s games, Halloween music, treats and more, including Oreo spider cookie-making, “Pin the Spider on its Web” and classroom activities like the spider art project.
Event runs 11 am to 3 pm Saturday at the Missoula Butterfly House and Insectarium.
For the truly gutsy, check out the live predator feedings throughout the day as well as tarantula feedings at 1 and 2:30 pm!
Cost is free with a normal admission and $4 for everyone else over the ages of three.

Missoula Haunted House
OK, so some of you might have second thoughts about taking your children through what is unarguably the most terrifying haunted house around. But in case you weren’t aware, the folks that run this awesome annual event (now in its fourth year!) are offering a “Kids’ House” every day Friday through Monday from 4-6 pm.
Admission is half-off ($5) during these times, and includes a photobooth.
