I picked up my 15 year old daughter from roller derby practice last night and we headed over to the nearest Dairy Queen to grab some ice cream. As we pull up in the drive through, my daughter became excited that the Blizzard flavor of the month was Pumpkin Pie. In September? Too soon I thought. This weekend as I was shopping at the local Costco, I found pumpkin spice yogurt covered pretzels on sale. As much as I love that combination of allspice, cloves and cinnamon, I think that might be going too far until I heard of Pumpkin Spice pizza.? Seriously who would eat that? Pumpkin spice can now be found in almost everything. The Associated Press reported this week that Datassentials, a company that tracks menu trends, says in recent years the number of pumpkin spice-related items introduced in restaurants and supermarkets has doubled. Pumpkin season is getting earlier each year, with major chains introducing the flavor in August. August! Pumpkin overload! I just may be rejecting it’s deliciousness by Halloween! Will you be getting pumpkin spice in/on your next coffee, beer, cookie, candy, potato chip, mouthwash, gum, yogurt, pastry or pizza?
